Church of St. Ursula, Cologne

The Church of St. Ursula is one of twelve big Romanic churches in the old town of Cologne. It is consecrated to Saint Ursula and has its origins in late antiquity. The Church of St. Ursula, which is built upon the ancient ruins of a Roman cemetery, is situated in the near vicinity of Cologne Cathedral. It was destroyed during World War II and its reconstruction was completed in 1964. // St. Ursula, as the patron saint of Cologne, is of particular importance to the town and its inhabitants. Legend has it that the ancient basilica had been built on the site where holy virgins were killed. Allegedly, the Church of St. Ursula contains the relics of Ursula and 11,000 virgins. The church has been recently renovated and handsomely shows off the impressive reliquary and a range of fantastic art treasures.
