Francia Square (Plaza Francia), Buenos Aires

The Plaza Francia is located in the Recoleta neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. In 1910 the French presented Argentina with a large monument commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the May revolution. This bronze, granite and marble monument is the centrepiece of the square, and has become a popular meeting point in Buenos Aires. Shows and events can be seen in the green areas of the square nearly every week. But perhaps the most interesting event in this square is the handicraft market, the largest of its kind in Argentina. This market sees many different artisans from nearly every corner of the South American continent.
