Cheap Hotels near National Museum & Collins Barracks Dublin
Dublin’s National Museum is located on the site of the historic Collins Barracks, in the Arbour Hill district of Dublin. The museum’s exhibits and exhibitions are divided between three sites around Dublin, the others located at Kildare Street and Merrion Street. The branch at Collins Barracks is dedicated to decorative arts and Irish history. The Collins Barracks was decommissioned in 1997 and the site turned into a museum. There was a military garrison stationed at Arbour Hill from 1702, and was used by both British troops during the period of colonial rule, and by Irish soldiers after the declaration of the Irish Free State in 1921. The barracks was known as the “Royal Barracks” until 1922, when it was renamed Collins Barracks in honour of the Republican politician and military leader Michael Collins. The National Museum & Collins Barracks are located close to the LUAS tram stop “Museum”. You can also catch the Museumlink bus, which also serves the Kildare Street and Merrion Street sites of Dublin’s National Museum.
