Cheap Hotels near Sagrada Família Barcelona The Sagrada Familia is a Catholic church located in Barcelona, designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí. This is a fine example of Catalan Modernist architecture. Work on the building began in 1882 and it is still under construction. Gaudi managed the building of this church when he was just 31 years old and spent the rest of his life working on it, indeed dedicating the last 15 years of his life exclusively to this project, although failing to complete the building by the time of his death in 1926. His most innovative idea was the design of high circular conical towers that rise above the entrance, tapering as they get higher. The idea was that this temple would be visible from anywhere in the city of Barcelona. Today, the Sagrada Familia has a room fitted out as a museum located in the basement of the church. The Sagrada Familia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gaudi was the creator of other works also located in Barcelona, like La Pedrera, Parc Guell and Casa Batllo.
