Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain is one of the most well-known tourist attractions in Rome, famed for its staring roll in Federico Fellini's 'La Dolce Vita'. The Trevi Fountain's location is at the end of the Aqua Virgo, an ancient aqueduct dating back to 19 BC, in the Quirinale district of Rome, and it's the largest fountain from the Baroque period in the city. In 1730 the Pope at the time organised a competition for the design of the fountain, which at that time was just a source of water- not grand enough for the people of Rome. A Florentine man by the name of Alessandro Galilei won, to the dismay of the Roman public who wanted the fountain to be designed by a son of Rome, so the project was passed to Nicola Salvi of Rome. A trip to the Trevi Fountain obliges you to join the masses that throw coins into the fountain; legend goes that if you throw a coin in it will guarantee your return to Rome.
