Дрезден
Looking for a place to stay in this Saxon city? Have a look at our hotels in Dresden so you can discover everything this vibrant German city has to offer.
Highlights
This city has done a remarkable job of rebuilding its most classic historical buildings, not the least of which is the Frauenkirche in the Neumarkt square, after being practically razed to the ground by bombing raids. Dominated by its magnificent dome and golden cross that crown the building, the Frauenkirche's interior is bright and airy and decorated in golds, creams and pastels. In old town, the Altmarkt square fills up with market stalls selling Christmas goodies during the infamous Weihnachtsmarkt. Not into Christmas kitsch? You can always spend some time on the pedestrian Prager Strasse, a long stretch of shops and boutiques just south of Altmarkt. Finally, culture and art lovers won't want to miss the spectacular Semper Opera House where Wagner once conducted and the Albertinum, a fine arts museum housed in a former palace.
Food & Drink
In Dresden, the potato is king, and you can sample it in any one of its varieties from soup to dumplings to pancakes. If it's near Christmas time, you can sample a piece of Dresdner Stollen (a sugary almond fruit cake) and a cup of coffee at “Kaffee und Kuchen” time.
Off the Beaten Track
Check out the bars, restaurants and art galleries on the wonderland-like Kunsthofpassage with its colourful decorated façades.
