About Copenhagen
Highlights:
The Danish capital of Copenhagen is full of fairy-tale magic. Dive deeper into the world of Hans Christian Andersen at the H.C. Andersen Fairy Tale House and Museum and see his beloved statue amidst the manicured lawns of the King's Garden. Just a short stroll away, you'll find the colourful port of Nyhavn, where tall sailing ships are moored against the backdrop of brightly coloured buildings housing restaurants and several of Hans Christian Andersen's former homes. Here you can hop a sightseeing boat through the canals and by Copenhagen's mascot, the Little Mermaid, the tiny siren that perches on a rock north of the city centre. Visit Copenhagen's trio of royal palaces: Christiansborg, Rosenborg and Amalienborg, but if you only have time for one, make it Rosenborg with its beautiful gardens. Explore Danish history at the sprawling Nationalmuseet with free entrance, and indulge your inner child at the charming amusement park of Tivoli Gardens before heading back to one of our hotels in Copenhagen.
Food & Drink:
If you only try one thing while in Copenhagen, make it a smørrebrød! This open-faced sandwich is served on rye bread and topped with ingredients like smoked mackerel with caviar yoghurt sauce and fresh herbs or the popular liver pâté with cucumber and bacon. To grab a bite on the go, try the famous street food, a Danish hot dog loaded up with crispy onions, pickles and remoulade. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Michelin-starred restaurants serve new Nordic cuisine, like Noma, regarded as the world's finest restaurant.
Off the Beaten Track:
Just a short jaunt from central Copenhagen, Christiania is an alternative hippie haven. A self-declared free state, you can check out its markets, cafés and picturesque natural scenery.
