Hyde Park is one of the largest and most celebrated parks in London. Once a royal hunting ground, it opened to the public in the late 17th century. As well as the huge grassy fields and shady corners where Londoners come to picnic, or enjoy a game of football or cricket, it also contains the Serpentine, a large recreational lake for swimming and boating. Nearby, you'll find the The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, and the striking and poignant memorial to the victims of the 7/7 London bombings. One of the park's most famous landmarks is Speaker's Corner, where the speakers talk passionately about anything and everything under the sun.
