Hostal Lisboa, Madrid
The beautiful designer 3 star Hostal Lisboa is situated in central Madrid, just a few blocks from the lively La Puerta del Sol and the historic Plaza Mayor. Just a short distance from the fabulous art triangle composed of the world class Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia museums, you can view the Spanish greats here, Goya, Picasso, and Velazquez to name a few. Drink in the green tranquillity of the Botanic Gardens opposite the Prado museum.
On the street bordering the far end of the gardens are the used book stalls reminiscent of those on the river Seine (but on a smaller scale). Just opposite is the beautiful Atocha train station. Cross the intersection to the multicultural, bohemian Lavapies area with its outdoor cafes- try the charming Bar Barbieri (C/Ave Maria) with its old world feel. Up the same street is El Melos, a fantastic little bar with the best ham and cheese sandwiches known to man- the ham and cheese that will change your life. Work your way up tapas-hopping style back near the hostel for still more tapas options: El Anciano Rey de los Vinos (C/de la Paz 4) has a wonderful tiled interior, and excellent tapas to accompany the fine wines the bar is famous for.Its location eliminates the need to rely on public transport for getting to the places of interest in Madrid. The area round the Hotel is unbeatable for the quantity and proximity of bars, cafés and theatres. The rooms are high ceilinged, bright and spacious, with a decoration combining both classic and modern elements, creating a laid-back vibe to help you enjoy your stay.
