Eww
Great location but was completely disgusted with the hotel. You get what you pay for to stay in the city. The shared bathroom situation was interesting and the air conditioner is obnoxious. The whole place smelled of cigarettes even the nonsmoking rooms. Was getting over a cold and pretty sure by breathing in the air each night sleeping here prolonged my cold. I got overcharged and have to deal with that situation now. Don't want to pay $50 more for a place I overpayed to stay at to begin with.

good value for central Manhattan
Room was a bit smelly - but decent enough. Very cheap considering the location. Clean. Friendly staff. Very nice large health food store nearby (where the fresh cooked help-yourself deli stuff is half price after about 8.30pm) - turn right outside hotel, then first left and it is on the other side of that road a bit further along.

A reasonable place to stay
The hotel is very well located which is its biggest advantage. The staff are very helpful. The toilet was blocked when I arrived and in general the bathrooms could've been cleaner for my liking but I am fussy. There is no way to alter the heating in your room yourself and after getting it turned off the night before I then needed it back on as its was -15 outside. They couldn't turn it on so blocked a draft with towels and gave me a portable heater which was kind but I was still cold. Not all the plug sockets worked in my room either. I was there with a group of students who were happy with their stay and many said they would stay again. As a more experienced traveller, I was expecting it to be better than it was hence the average rating.

Small but very nice rooms
Tiny single rooms, but very nice -- the hotel is not new, it seems to go back to the '40s but with modern amenities like cable TV. The bathroom is shared but is being cleaned all the time. Only drawbacks are, as already mentioned, the size of the single rooms, the absence of a small desk -- but one can always find an optimal position to use the laptop on the bed -- and the wifi which was quite slow. However, also given its very central position, this hotel is well worth the price!

Simple with a good location!
Good location on the 17th street between 2nd and 3rd Ave. Small rooms with a zink, but you're not in New York to spend time in the hotel! Toilet and showers in the hallway. Clean rooms and showers. Nice staff!
